About the position

The Civil/Structural Engineer III at Hargrove Engineers & Constructors is responsible for performing comprehensive designs for civil and structural engineering assignments, both small and large, under general supervision. This role emphasizes the application of theoretical knowledge and practical design methods to deliver efficient and effective engineering solutions while ensuring compliance with industry standards and client expectations.

Responsibilities

  • Utilize department design and drafting standards for project assignments.
  • Develop conceptual layouts and cost studies to determine efficient engineering solutions.
  • Produce estimate level preliminary designs and material take-offs for projects.
  • Create detailed design calculations and sketches for construction materials.
  • Ensure calculations are organized for efficient checking and use by drafters/designers.
  • Design with an emphasis on efficient use of construction materials and client satisfaction.
  • Check calculations made by other engineers for accuracy and compliance with standards.
  • Assist the drafting group in resolving layout and detailing issues.
  • Consult with design leaders from other disciplines for project completion.
  • Advise senior engineers on design or scope changes.
  • Assist in developing scopes, drawings, and specifications for procurement.
  • Review vendor and discipline drawings for civil/structural input.
  • Develop construction specifications and review fabrication drawings for compliance.
  • Perform fieldwork to gather data and provide construction support.
  • Provide technical guidance to less experienced personnel.
  • Lead small to medium teams in coordinating civil/structural efforts.
  • Develop small work sharing packages for interoffice execution.

Requirements

  • Bachelor or Master of Science degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited university.
  • Professional Engineering registration is highly preferred.
  • 3+ years of relevant industrial experience in civil/structural engineering.
  • Knowledge of the International Building Code and associated standards (ASCE, AISC, ACI).
  • Expertise with civil/structural analysis software.
  • Knowledge of methods and practices for engineering, design, and construction of projects.
  • Ability to lead a small to medium team effectively.
  • Working knowledge of CAD software (AutoCAD, Microstation, or both).
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work in virtual teams and develop cross-divisional relationships.
