About the position

The Summer 2025 Internship at Rieth-Riley offers students studying engineering, construction management, and business an opportunity to gain practical work experience and college credit in the field of horizontal construction. Interns will assist professionals in various administrative and technical tasks related to heavy highway and road construction projects, providing a comprehensive learning experience from industry experts.

Responsibilities

  • Assist and support an estimator, project manager, superintendent, or quality control with on-site administrative tasks, operations, and technical aspects of projects in heavy highway/road construction.
  • Conduct surveying, testing, sample collection, drawing correction, and filing.
  • Prepare reports, conduct safety inspections, and log and process submittals.
  • Manage timekeeping and cost control, inventory control, schedule checking, and subcontractor monitoring.
  • Prepare quantity take-offs and call vendors and subcontractors for proposals.
  • Attend bid openings, conferences, and other relevant events.
  • Review drawings and specifications for completeness, accuracy, or discrepancies.
  • Assist with planning and scheduling, processing change orders, extra work orders, and preparing requests for progress payments.
  • Arrange utility services and prepare charts and formal reports.
  • Conduct density testing and core sample collection.
  • Perform quality control calculations and measurements.
  • Supervise punch-list activities and obtain permits and licenses, checking zoning and code requirements.

Requirements

  • Pursuing a bachelor's degree in Engineering and/or Construction Management preferred.
  • Strong quantitative and analytical skills.
  • Good organization skills.
  • Adaptable and able to thrive in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office essential.
  • Problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
  • Self-motivated; ability to work independently and as a team.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
