This position is responsible for the care and maintenance of trees and landscaping. It involves updating and maintaining a database of city trees, developing tree treatment and maintenance schedules, training and directing personnel, and entering data into various city systems. The role also includes planning and organizing community events like Arbor Day and Christmas tree recycling, evaluating trees for property owners, and performing various tree care functions such as removal, pruning, planting, mulching, fertilizing, watering, and treatment. Additionally, the position may involve snow removal and assisting other city divisions with events. The work requires knowledge of arboricultural practices, tools, equipment, safety procedures, landscaping design, and computer software. Contacts are typically with coworkers, contractors, vendors, state and federal forestry personnel, and the general public for information exchange, problem resolution, motivation, and service provision. The work environment is primarily outdoors, sometimes in inclement weather, with exposure to dust, dirt, grease, and machinery. Protective devices are required.
