About the position

The Chinese Sign Language Interpreter will provide interpretation services across various sectors including education, legal, medical, environmental, and social services within the State of Oregon. This role is essential for facilitating effective communication for individuals who are Deaf, Hard of Hearing, or Deaf-Blind, ensuring that all duties align with the mission and values of Cayuse Civil, LLC.

Responsibilities

• Accurately interpreting spoken work situations like lectures, conversations, and meetings
• Translating Chinese Sign Language into English
• Working with an organization's faculty to better facilitate communication with deaf members of the community
• Collaborating with other ASL Interpreters
• Utilizing technology to transcribe spoken English in some settings
• Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• High School Degree or BA Degree or equivalent in years of experience
• 5+ years of experience in Chinese Sign Language (CSL)
• Registry of Interpretation for Deaf (RID), Board of evaluation of Interpretation certification program (BEI), World Association of Sign Language Interpreters certification
• Demonstrated experience in providing auxiliary aids and services to facilitate effective communication for people with disabilities
• Experience in Language Liaison, Education, Medical, Environmental, or Military Interpretation
• Comfortable interpreting for organizations like NBCMI, DSHS, CHI, Federal courts, and others
• Certified or qualified by Oregon Court Certification program, Oregon Health Authority, or Oregon Health Care Interpreter Program
• Experience interpreting for Metro or other jurisdictions in Oregon
• Experience in specialized vocabularies (i.e., legal, performing arts, cultural)
• Fluency in one or more specified languages (e.g., Spanish, Vietnamese, Chinese, etc.)
• Ability to pass a background check.

• Proficiency in Microsoft and Adobe toolsets, including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Acrobat
• Strong social awareness for interpretation with empathy and attentiveness
• Understanding of the cultural norms and conventions of the American Deaf Community
• Physical stamina and dexterity for extended interpretation sessions
• Problem-solving skills
• Ability to forge new relationships, both individually and in teams
• Self-starter who can work independently and as part of a team.
