About the position

The Childcare Teacher - Preschool at the YMCA of Greater Dayton is responsible for planning, developing, and implementing classroom activities that promote the social, physical, spiritual, and mental development of children. This part-time position prioritizes the safety and well-being of children while fostering a nurturing environment. The role involves collaboration with other staff, maintaining classroom standards, and ensuring compliance with state regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Plans, develops, and implements weekly lesson plans tailored to children's needs and developmental levels.
  • Works cooperatively with the Lead Teacher, Site Administrator, and other staff.
  • Documents attendance, absenteeism, transitions, minor disciplines, and incidents for each child.
  • Manages the appearance and organization of the classroom and outdoor areas.
  • Maintains quality and cleanliness of supplies, materials, and equipment.
  • Reports broken or unsafe toys and disinfects toys and equipment regularly.
  • Conducts the program in accordance with Ohio Department of Job and Family Services (ODJFS) guidelines.
  • Communicates effectively with parents and conducts parent/teacher conferences.
  • Follows proper reporting procedures for child abuse and neglect laws.
  • Handles discipline according to stated policies and documents any special needs or problems.
  • Monitors cleanliness of the childcare area and maintains appropriate adult/child ratios.
  • Fills in other classrooms as needed and attends parent events and family programs.
  • Participates in scheduled staff meetings, activities, and ongoing training.
  • Completes required screenings and assessments within the required time frame.
  • Maintains records for the Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP).
  • Communicates any concerns or needed repairs to the supervisor.
  • Possesses the ability to safely transport children when required.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • High school diploma or GED is required.
  • Associate's degree in Early Childhood Education preferred.
  • Six months of experience working in the early childhood field is strongly preferred.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with lesson planning and classroom management.
  • Knowledge of National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) accreditation requirements.
