About the position

The Childcare Provider/Aide is responsible for operating a licensed daycare center classroom for children aged 0-5 years. The role focuses on creating a safe, nurturing, and stimulating learning environment while providing developmentally appropriate activities that foster independence and self-worth in children. The position requires maintaining a clean and orderly classroom, documenting children's progress, and ensuring compliance with school rules and regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Uphold and enforce school rules, administrative regulations, and state and local board policy.
  • Keep the coordinator informed of any special needs or problems of individual students or children using the Child Development Center.
  • Maintain a neat and orderly classroom.
  • Assist in inventory, care, and maintenance of equipment.
  • Participate in staff development training programs (24 hrs.-per year required), faculty meetings, and special events, as needed.
  • Maintain current CPR/FA/AED including pediatric certification.
  • Maintain paraprofessional certification in Texas.
  • Nurture the emotional, social, physical and intellectual growth of the children.
  • Regular attendance; must be willing and able to report to work at the designated work site on regular daily basis according to established work schedule.
  • Abide by policies and procedures of the center outlined in the SMCISD Child Development Center Staff Handbook, TDHS, and Minimum Standards.
  • Implement developmentally appropriate, weekly, written lesson plans under the direction of supervisor.
  • Monitor and document children's progress on a regular basis using program approved documentation systems.
  • Conduct parent conferences at least twice a year in cooperation with coordinator.
  • Document appropriate information: injury, illness, medications, diapers, bottles, food, naps and anything else as directed.
  • Assist with personal hygiene of children, including changing diapers or soiled clothing as needed.
  • Protect the health and safety of the children by maintaining a clean room, washing hands frequently, supervising children's activities at all times, and sanitizing diaper changing area after each change (if applicable).
  • Maintain positive, cooperative attitude and understand the need to be flexible in the child care field.
  • Perform opening/closing duties in the child development center.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by coordinator, supervisor, or student workers.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED
  • Paraprofessional Certification
  • Current CPR/FA/AED certification including pediatric
  • 48 College Credit Hours or State Approved Paraprofessional Certification preferred
  • Child Development Associates Credential (CDA) preferred
  • Experience in a state licensed daycare center with 0-5 year old children required
  • Strong communications, public relations and interpersonal skills
  • Knowledge of child development
