About The Position

The Child Support Services (CSS) division of Denver Human Services (DHS) is seeking a highly skilled applicant for the position of Child Support Technician II to work within its dynamic accounting unit. CSS partners with various government entities and other organizations to promote parental responsibility, ensuring children receive financial support from both parents, even when they live in separate households. The child support program is a significant income-support program nationally, providing funds for essential family needs such as housing, food, childcare, transportation, and clothing. This program aims to implement innovative strategies to enhance the consistency and reliability of child support payments. The accounting professionals in this team are crucial in ensuring timely receipt of child support payments by families.

Requirements

  • Graduation from high school or the possession of a GED, HSET or TASC Certificate.
  • Four (4) years of experience performing child support initiation, enforcement, collections, investigations, case management or a related field.
  • Strong mathematical aptitude.
  • Experience with managing multiple high priority tasks in a fast-paced work environment.
  • Exhibits agility in an evolving work environment.
  • Experience engaging customers from diverse backgrounds with a solution-oriented approach through phone, email, and face-to-face contact.
  • A strong team mindset while working on individual goals and caseloads autonomously.
  • Valid Driver's License preferred (not required).

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Colorado’s Automated Child Support Enforcement System (ACSES), Adobe, and Microsoft suite is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Perform critical accounting functions related to Child Support Services programs, including arrears calculations, processing child support payments, updating financial records, and executing various financial reports using Microsoft Excel and other software.
  • Complete complex calculations, including legal calculations for court hearings.
  • Review court orders and minutes.
  • Attend court proceedings when requested.
  • Enter, compile, and maintain client records in various databases, from updating ledger balance information to calculating ongoing child support obligations.
  • Communicate with clients and associated parties regarding explanations of child support services, payment processes, and payment requirements.
  • Collaborate with DHS Child Support Enforcement Professionals.
  • Complete other assigned projects and reports as requested.
