About The Position

The City and County of Denver, Denver Human Services (DHS), Division of Economic Security (ESD), specifically the Child Support Services (CSS) program, is seeking a Child Support Technician I for its dynamic accounting unit. CSS partners with various government levels and other entities to promote parental responsibility and ensure children receive financial support from both parents. This role is crucial in managing child support payments, which contribute to families' basic needs like shelter, food, childcare, transportation, and clothing. The program aims to improve the consistency and reliability of these payments, and the accounting professionals play a pivotal role in ensuring timely receipt of funds.

Requirements

  • Graduation from high school or the possession of a GED, HiSET or TASC Certificate.
  • Four (4) years of experience performing office support work.
  • A passion for public service and improving the lives of families through strong critical thinking skills, accuracy, and attention to detail.
  • Experience with frequent manual calculations and meticulous attention to numerical detail, a strong mathematical aptitude is ideal.
  • Strong organization and time management skills.
  • Experience with managing multiple high priority tasks in a fast-paced work environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Colorado’s Automated Child Support Enforcement System (ACSES), Adobe, and Microsoft suite is a plus.
  • Valid Driver's License preferred (not required).

Responsibilities

  • Perform critical accounting functions related to Child Support Services programs including arrears calculations, processing child support payments, updating financial records, and executing several different financial reports using Microsoft Excel and other software programs.
  • Enter, compile, and maintain client records in various databases, including updating ledger balance information on the Automated Child Support Enforcement System (ACSES).
  • Review court orders and minutes to determine child support obligations and arrears.
  • Complete financial reports monthly, including contacting customers who are not cashing child support checks.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.
