About the position

The Child and Family Services Specialist Trainee - Adult Protective Services position at the State of Nebraska is designed for individuals who are passionate about making a difference in the lives of vulnerable adults. This role involves serving as a case manager, investigating allegations of abuse and neglect, and coordinating services to ensure the safety and well-being of clients. Trainees will undergo training and are expected to develop community resources and collaborate with various professionals to provide comprehensive support.

Responsibilities

  • Investigate allegations of abuse/neglect/self-neglect/financial exploitation.
  • Visit homes and nursing homes to conduct safety assessments.
  • Determine vulnerability and establish safety plans.
  • Initiate court interventions as necessary.
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate treatment plans.
  • Authorize and coordinate appropriate services for clients.
  • Prepare cases with legal staff and testify in court when required.
  • Develop community resources and collaborate with law enforcement, mental health, and medical professionals.
  • Inform the public about protection and safety services.
  • Perform crisis intervention as needed.
  • Prepare documentation and correspondence related to cases.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in social work, psychology, sociology, counseling, human development, mental health care, education, criminal justice, or a closely related area.
  • Consideration for applicants enrolled in the final semester of their Bachelor's Degree.
  • Valid driver's license or ability to provide independent authorized transportation.

Nice-to-haves

  • Previous experience as a Children and Family Services Specialist with the state of Nebraska.
  • Experience working with vulnerable adults.
