About the position

Responsible for strategic oversight and operational performance for Patient Care Services within designated facility. Provides leadership, guidance, and direction in achieving outcomes consistent with organizational mission, philosophy, goals, and objectives. Assumes leadership responsibility for the assessment planning, implementation, and evaluation of clinically effective and efficient systems of care and service within the continuum of care. The Chief Nursing Officer II (CNOII) directs all operations of patient services in assigned areas and may also be responsible for other clinical and administrative operations such as Imaging Services, Lab Services, Security Services, etc. The Chief Nursing Officer II (CNOII) may also be assigned Campus Administrator responsibility for designated hospital campus.

Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic leadership for nursing practice and operations.
  • Serve as a change agent, assisting all staff in understanding the importance, necessity, impact and process of change.
  • Exemplify the Atrium Health Values and Code of Conduct.
  • Identify compliance risk through department led risk assessments, system monitoring, and periodic audits.
  • Ensure immediate action is taken on any issues identified through self-assessment or by Legal Services or Corporate Compliance.
  • Demonstrate leadership in clinical quality, safety, experience, human resources, financial management, strategic and operational planning.
  • Provide leadership in resource development and management.
  • Collaborate with Human Resources Department on recruitment and retention of staff.
  • Plan, develop and implement approved operational and capital budgets for nursing departments.
  • Contribute to the creation and implementation of long-range strategic plans and goals.
  • Participate in organization-wide performance improvement activities.
  • Review and evaluate implications of proposed long- and short-term goals and strategic objectives.
  • Ensure direction and oversight of clinical functions and activities for all nursing and patient care departments.
  • Facilitate the development of policies and procedures affecting clinical practice.
  • Provide continuous quality improvement using quality indicators.
  • Build and maintain collaborative partnerships within and outside the institution.
  • Instill a culture for consumer input into healthcare decisions and policy development.
  • Demonstrate organizational commitment, ethical and professional behavior.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited College of Nursing with a Masters degree from an accredited program in a specialty such as Nursing, Public Health, Health Administration, or Business Administration required.
  • Doctorate (DNP or PhD) in Nursing required; DNP preferred.
  • All degrees must be from accredited colleges or universities.
  • Continuing education of 30 hours or more bi-annually.
  • Five years of progressive managerial experience, preferably at the Director level or above in an Academic Medical Center.
  • Demonstrated achievement of high quality and cost-effective clinical outcomes.
  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) licensure in good standing in the State of North Carolina.
  • Certification in area of specialty or clinical administration required within one year of hire.
