About the position

The Chief Credit Officer (CCO) is responsible for overseeing the bank's credit risk management function, ensuring compliance with lending laws and internal policies. This role serves as an advisor to senior management and the Board, leading all lending-related compliance and regulatory relations. The CCO manages loan administration and credit activities, optimizing the credit granting process and assessing the creditworthiness of potential customers.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee all aspects of the bank's credit risk management function.
  • Ensure compliance with all lending-related banking laws, regulations, and internal policies.
  • Serve as an advisor to senior management and the Board in areas of credit risk.
  • Lead and oversee all lending-related compliance, internal audit, external audit, and regulatory relations.
  • Manage the overall loan administration and credit-related activities for the bank.
  • Accountable for credit underwriting strategy and execution, including setting credit policy.
  • Develop department financial goals including credit quality, volume, and risk distribution.
  • Provide recommendations on loan structure, terms, risk rating, and pricing.
  • Implement and monitor credit policies and procedures to maintain asset quality and credit risk management.
  • Manage the credit analysis and administration teams, including recruitment and performance management.
  • Review, modify, approve, or decline loans within lending authority.
  • Work with credit analysts and commercial lenders to ensure adherence to credit criteria and performance expectations.
  • Manage the Special Assets department and oversee resolution of classified assets.
  • Prepare and distribute reports related to loan quality and growth trends.
  • Utilize the quarterly Allowance for Loan and Lease Losses (ALLL) report to provide recommendations for loss reserves.
  • Review real estate data and assess its impact on the client's loan portfolio.
  • Participate in bank committees including ALLL Committee and Loan Committee.
  • Represent the client in various customer and industry functions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, statistics, or a related field; MBA/CPA/Graduate School of Banking is a plus.
  • 15+ years of commercial banking experience in credit administration, analysis, and risk mitigation.
  • Direct credit approval and supervisory experience in commercial real estate, construction, and commercial and industrial lending and leasing.
  • 15+ years of progressive leadership experience.
  • Knowledge of common data management and reporting software; banking/lending experience required.
  • Strong understanding of loan underwriting and the lending process.
  • Strong understanding of legal and regulatory guidance governing bank lending.
  • Experience in small and middle market lending, specifically in C & I and CRE.
  • Problem loan management and allowance for loan loss management experience.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
