About the position

The Chess Club Advisor at Marple Newtown High School is responsible for overseeing the school's chess club, which provides students with opportunities to engage in both social and competitive chess. The advisor will help students improve their chess skills, organize meetings and tournaments, and promote interest in the game among students. This part-time position is essential for fostering a positive learning environment and developing students' strategic thinking through chess.

Responsibilities

• Help students improve their chess skills and strategies.
• Organize games, tournaments, and practices.
• Oversee club activities, equipment, and supplies.
• Encourage participation and interest in chess and promote the club.
• Identify and nurture talented players and select students to compete in tournaments.
• Provide personalized coaching to players and help them develop mental preparation and tournament etiquette.
• Communicate with parents regarding club activities and student progress.
• Attend all events and supervise students at these events.
• Perform other duties as assigned by Administration.

Requirements

• Must be familiar with chess and other board games.
• Skills in organization, supervision, management, and planning of weekly meetings and competitions.
• Education: High school diploma or college degree.
