About the position

We are Hiring at UofL Hospital's 5 South Surgical Oncology unit. 5 South is a 16-bed complex surgical oncology unit caring for complex pre- and post-operative surgical oncology and plastics patients. This unit has all private rooms. UofL Hospital, a 404-bed academic teaching and research hospital, is at the heart of the Louisville Metro area in downtown Louisville. UofL Hospital offers a second-to-none cancer center, world-renowned trauma team and a uniquely streamlined, nationally accredited stroke center-the latest innovations in a history of world-class care. UofL Hospital is the only adult Level I Trauma Center in the region, which includes the only dedicated burn center in Kentucky. As an academic health care system, we will transform the health of the communities we serve through compassionate, innovative, patient-centered care.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the clinical manager and nursing director with the management of the unit.
  • Participate in employee evaluations, staffing and scheduling, patient and preceptor assignments.
  • Oversee resource utilization and initiate quality improvement activities.
  • Act as a resource and provide information/education to unit staff.
  • Involved in service recovery and promote customer service to both internal and external customers.
  • Serve as a role model of the professional nurse by being present on the unit and participating in nursing department initiatives and organizational committee meetings.

Requirements

  • Active Kentucky registered nurse license or compact license with privileges to work in Kentucky.
  • Associate degree in nursing from an accredited college or university.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) accredited by the American Heart Association (AHA).
  • All new-hire Associate degree registered nurses (new graduate and experienced) are required to start an approved BSN program within one (1) year of hire and complete an approved BSN program within three (3) years of hire.
  • One (1) year of nursing experience in specialty area.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bachelor's degree in nursing from an accredited college or university.
  • Two (2) years of nursing experience in specialty area.
  • Additional specialized certifications may be required, or preferred, based on unit.
