Family Health Centers of San Diego (FHCSD) is dedicated to providing exceptional health care to all, particularly underserved communities with limited health care options. As a Certified Phlebotomy Technician and Lab Assistant, you will play a crucial role in our mission to impact lives and communities positively. This position involves following established guidelines for various blood collection techniques, including venipuncture, finger stick, and heel stick, as well as the collection of body fluid specimens. You will be responsible for completing all required documentation accurately and in a timely manner, ensuring compliance with departmental standards. Identifying and addressing any issues that may affect test performance or reporting is essential, and you will need to notify the technical CLS supervisor of any identified problems immediately. Maintaining a clean and organized workstation and laboratory area is vital, adhering to departmental and regulatory standards. You will also be tasked with monitoring lab supplies and materials, ensuring they are stocked appropriately. Safety is a priority, and you will need to follow the laboratory's safety protocols as outlined in the FHCSD chemical hygiene plan. Your role will include specimen handling, storage, and processing according to the Laboratory Procedure Manual, as well as inputting order entries and managing the computer tracking system for specimens. Performing clerical duties related to reporting results and distributing them in a timely manner is also part of your responsibilities. Additionally, you will conduct Point-of-Care Waived Tests as per the Laboratory Procedure Manual and perform other duties as assigned. This position requires a high school diploma or GED equivalent, along with a Certified Phlebotomy Technician Certificate from an approved DHHS training facility. A current California license or certificate as a Phlebotomy Technician is mandatory, as well as current CPR certification from the American Heart Association. You should have 0 to 4 years of experience in performing venipuncture and related procedures. The ability to work well in a team-based environment, multi-task, and adapt to changing priorities in a fast-paced setting is essential. Cultural sensitivity and respect for diversity are crucial, and multilingual skills in English, Spanish, Arabic, and Somali are preferred depending on current priorities and locations. Strong interpersonal and customer service skills, along with good organizational abilities and attention to detail, are necessary for success in this role.
