Our client is the most important non-profit center for nursing excellence, specializing in the midwifery model of care. WBWC is dedicated to providing people of diverse cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds person-centered, holistic, trauma-informed, and gender-affirming healthcare throughout the life cycle. Summary The Midwife (CNM) assists patients in labor and delivery, as well as postpartum care. Provides professional care for patients with obstetric and gynecologic needs. Ensures safety and health of mother and child and identifies need for additional care.

  • Provides in office care to primary care, wellness, lactation, gynecology, and child-bearing patients within the scope of a Certified Nurse Midwife utilizing the established Clinical Practice Guidelines within the practice.
  • Takes 24-hour call shifts in rotation with other midwives in practice covering laboring patients at the birth center and at transferring hospital, as needed.
  • Assists in developing, implementing and maintaining compliance with policies and procedures for the midwifery practice as needed and requested.
  • Maintains compliance with ACNM, AABC and all state and federal laws and regulations.
  • Assists with maintaining appropriate systems to assure quality patient care such as participation emergency skills drills and in-services; participates and utilizes quality management principles through weekly chart review.
  • Contributes to maintaining productive and positive working relationships with staff at WBWC, consulting physicians and with health care facilities and agencies.
  • Serve as a resource to the clinic staff by participating in and providing contemporary in-service education that will facilitate in increasing teamwork and maintaining a comprehensive approach to the delivery of health care.
  • Serve as a consultant to outside agencies as assigned regarding nurse midwifery practice.
  • Participates in selected local, state and national organizations that affect nurse midwifery practice (ACNM, NC ACNM, and AABC).
  • Participates in activities designed to enhance public awareness of Women's Birth & Wellness Center services.
  • Participates as part of a professional team by performing any other duties as assigned or needed.
  • Current license as a Registered Nurse in North Carolina.
  • Certification by the American Midwifery Certification Board.
  • Current Approval to Practice granted by the NC Midwifery Joint Committee OR meets qualifications for Approval to Practice pending Physician Supervision requirement.
  • Graduate degree in Nursing or Midwifery
  • Competency in the practice of nurse midwifery within the limits of the specialty.
  • Acceptance of several principles of community health care that include, but are not limited to the following: Commitment to midwifery model of care, commitment to practice of health promotion and disease prevention, appropriate risk stratification, provision of trauma-informed and gender-affirming care, commitment to actively addressing health inequities and to providing safe spaces for marginalized people and communities.
