About the position

The position involves conducting or supporting laboratory testing to aid in the diagnosis and treatment of diseases. The individual will ensure proficiency and accuracy in all aspects of laboratory testing while following established policies and procedures. The role requires applying professional knowledge of medical technology, including a broad understanding of testing methodologies, quality assurance procedures, and specialized knowledge of disease states and the clinical significance of tests in diagnosing diseases.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrates mastery of medical technology principles, concepts, and methods related to clinical laboratory procedures and performs testing with precision and accuracy.
  • Performs and reports test results for waived, moderate, and high complexity clinical laboratory procedures as assigned and outlined in the standard operating procedures (SOPs).
  • Uses professional knowledge to solve problems or escalates to the appropriate individual.
  • Operates computerized laboratory data systems/applications as assigned and reviews pending work using established protocol.
  • Uses correct policies and procedures in the collection, labeling, handling, and processing of all specimens, verifying patient and specimen identification.
  • Evaluates specimen integrity based on department SOPs.
  • Monitors Quality Control (QC) and Quality Management (QM) for the assigned area, evaluates QC results, investigates variances, and notifies the appropriate individual of unresolved issues.
  • Operates laboratory instrumentation, identifies and resolves technical problems, and performs maintenance and function checks on instrumentation.
  • Understands and complies with standards set by governmental and accrediting agencies, performs competency assessments, and instructs students and new team members.
  • Maintains a safe and clean working environment and responds to safety violations.
  • Recognizes customer satisfaction issues and responds appropriately, supporting Prisma Health's financial, customer service, and quality initiatives.
  • Communicates critical values to other healthcare team members and performs required documentation.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Chemical/Physical/Biological/Clinical Laboratory Science, or Medical Technology from an accredited institution or a degree that meets ASCP or AMT certification requirements.
  • No experience required.

Nice-to-haves

  • Associates degree with MT(HEW) certification or current Categorical (ASCP).
  • Foreign degree that meets CLIA Testing Personnel Qualifications at the discretion of the Administrative Director and Medical Director.
