About The Position

The Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) reports to the Outpatient Clinic Manager and works under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse. The CMA performs multi-skilled clinical and administrative duties to support a decentralized, patient-centered approach to care and achieve optimal patient outcomes. This position assists physicians with examinations and treatments, coordinates patient care activities, and promotes a positive patient experience while adhering to established policies, procedures, and quality standards.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program required.
  • One (1) year of patient care experience preferred.
  • Experience in a specialty clinic setting, preferably neurology, is preferred.
  • Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) through the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA)
  • Certified Medical Assistant through the American Medical Technologists (AMT)
  • Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) through the National Healthcareer Association (NHA)
  • Medical Assistant certification through MedCA
  • Certification through the National Association for Health Professionals (NAHP)
  • Current American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification, or Current American Red Cross BLS for Healthcare Providers Certification
  • Knowledge of medical terminology, clinical procedures, and patient care practices.
  • Proficiency in electronic medical records (EMR) systems.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks in a fast-paced clinical environment.
  • Ability to maintain professionalism and confidentiality.
  • Commitment to providing exceptional patient-centered care.

Responsibilities

  • Assist physicians and healthcare providers with patient examinations, treatments, and minor procedures.
  • Interview patients and obtain medical histories and other relevant health information.
  • Measure and document vital signs, including blood pressure, pulse, temperature, height, weight, and oxygen saturation as appropriate.
  • Identify and communicate abnormal findings or patient concerns to the physician or supervising nurse and document findings accurately.
  • Record patient information, assessments, and clinical activities in the electronic medical record (EMR) according to established guidelines.
  • Collect, prepare, and process laboratory specimens as directed.
  • Perform minor diagnostic tests and administer treatments under the supervision of licensed healthcare professionals.
  • Prepare examination and treatment rooms and ensure equipment and supplies are available and functioning properly.
  • Sterilize medical instruments and maintain infection prevention and control standards.
  • Assist in educating patients regarding procedures, treatments, medications, and follow-up care instructions.
  • Welcome patients and create a supportive, professional environment.
  • Maintain and update electronic health records and patient files.
  • Schedule appointments and coordinate referrals, specialty consultations, laboratory services, and hospital admissions.
  • Obtain prior authorizations for medications, procedures, and diagnostic testing as required.
  • Relay diagnostic test results and provider recommendations to patients as directed.
  • Guide patients through clinic processes and explain procedures and treatments.
  • Maintain inventory and replenish examination room supplies.
  • Assist with training and onboarding of new care team members related to daily office operations.
  • Demonstrate behaviors consistent with the mission, vision, and values of the practice and organization.
  • Maintain flexibility and adaptability in response to changes in systems, workflows, and patient care needs.
  • Treat patients, visitors, physicians, and staff with professionalism, courtesy, and respect.

  • Maintain patient confidentiality and comply with all applicable regulatory requirements.
