About the position

Under the direct supervision of the Clinic Process and Quality Manager, and with direction from the Chief Operations Officer and Chief Medical Officer, the Certified Medical Assistant assists physicians, mid-level providers and other care team members in the delivery of efficient and high-quality healthcare. The person in this position is part of the team concept in the Center's health delivery system, which is devoted to the delivery of primary care in an ambulatory setting with emphases on prevention and health maintenance. Assist the R.N., L.V.N., and the clinical staff in performing their duties and carrying on the necessary functions required in accordance with established policies and procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Reviews EMR the day before in preparation of primary care patient visits.
  • Greets and registers patients, check-in and check-out patients, and maintain the flow of patients in the clinic floor.
  • Identifies and documents the single chief complaint for the visit.
  • Prepare patient for examination.
  • Take and document vital signs in EPIC.
  • Obtains, documents, and marks various patient information as reviewed in EPIC.
  • Perform screenings as needed, and documents them in EPIC.
  • Encourages and assists patients to enroll into MyChart.
  • Assist the clinical staff in completing examination and procedures as instructed.
  • Completely fill out lab slips and other forms, when necessary.
  • Administer medications, immunizations, and injections as ordered.
  • Follow universal precautions to protect self and patients.
  • Assist the medical staff in patient education and family planning counseling.
  • Follow up with medical records department to ensure lab and x-ray reports are received.
  • Follow up with referral department to ensure that medical provider's referral requests are submitted.
  • Input immunization into CAIR Program for VFC clients.
  • Maintain examination rooms clean following OSHA Guidelines.
  • Stock exam rooms with supplies on a daily basis.
  • Complete MA Performance Criteria training sheet.
  • Perform CLIA Waived Testing.
  • Interpret for the clinical staff when necessary.
  • Under the direction of the nurse or provider in-charge, takes responsibility of medical supplies and cleaning of the medical instruments and equipment.
  • Provide HIV/Antibody counseling in accordance with established protocols.
  • Direct patients to the laboratory and or check-out departments upon completion of face-to-face encounter with the medical provider.

  • Always be a patient advocate.
  • Ensure patient information is always secure and confidential.

Requirements

  • Certification as a Certified Medical Assistant recognized by the State Board of CA.
  • High School Diploma/GED.
  • CPR certified.
  • Previous experience as a Certified Medical Assistant.
  • Non-Profit / FQHC Clinic experience.
  • Experience working with culturally diverse patients.
  • Familiarity with Quality Measures.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish).
