Responsibilities

• Assist the operating surgeon in the care of patients during surgery.
• Provide direct and indirect technical care to surgical and obstetrical patients.
• Facilitate safe and effective conduct of invasive surgical procedures.
• Follow established practices and standards in the operating room.
• Complete established competencies for the position within the designated introductory period.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Graduate of a Surgical First Assistant program with eligibility for certification through NBSTSA, ABSA, or NSAA within 120 days from graduation.
• 1 year of recent operating room experience, including direct patient contact and proper sterile technique.
• Must be a Certified Surgical Technologist.
• Certification as a certified first assistant through NBSTSA, ABSA, or NSAA, which must be maintained through continuing education or recertification testing.
• Must have active healthcare provider Basic Life Support (BLS) certification on hire, with AHA Healthcare Provider BLS required within 60 days of hire.

Nice-to-haves

• 2 or more years of recent operating room experience.
• Additional certifications or licensure related to surgical assistance.
