About the position

The Certified Bilingual Phlebotomist position involves performing blood draws and specimen collection in a healthcare setting, specifically focusing on pediatrics and geriatrics. The role requires adherence to established procedures for specimen handling and compliance with health regulations, while also providing clear communication to patients about the collection process.

Responsibilities

  • Experience doing blood draws, labeling specimens, centrifuging specimens, recording maintenance data and decontamination, updating patient information.
  • Collects and stores specimens according to established procedures.
  • Properly explains the process of venipuncture and other specimen collection in a clear and courteous manner.
  • Demonstrate techniques using straight needles and/or butterfly needles.
  • Fully understand all of the physicians' orders.
  • Matches laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes.
  • Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test order.
  • Check all test requisitions or computer labels against scripts to ensure 100% correctness.
  • Package specimens for transport.
  • Store specimen samples according to required temperature and place samples in appropriate collection containers/tubes, accurately labeling them.
  • Follow different procedures as outlined by specific protocols for transport to maintain specimen integrity.
  • Understand and comply with OSHA and DEP regulations.
  • Attend annual department trainings.
  • Answer telephone calls and read laboratory results to satisfy inquiries.

Requirements

  • Valid Phlebotomy certification (National/State certified).
  • Must have 1+ years of pediatrics and geriatrics experience.
  • Must be bilingual (Spanish).
  • Minimum of 1 year of work experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • 1-2 years of experience.
  • Must have flexibility to work First Shift.
