The Central Sterile Processing Specialist at Beaufort Memorial Hospital plays a crucial role in ensuring the safety and efficiency of surgical procedures by managing the decontamination, processing, sterilization, storage, and documentation of surgical instruments. This position requires collaboration with the Central Sterile Processing Team Leader and the Surgical Services Supply Manager to adhere to regulatory and policy requirements. The specialist will work under direct or indirect supervision, directing workflow to ensure that appropriate instrumentation is available for surgical teams, maintaining a clean and organized work area, and acquiring necessary resources to support surgical operations. In this role, the specialist is responsible for the entire lifecycle of surgical instruments, from decontamination to sterilization and storage. This includes ensuring that all instruments are properly cleaned, sterilized, and stored in accordance with established protocols. The specialist must also document all processes accurately to maintain compliance with health regulations and hospital policies. The position demands a high level of attention to detail and a commitment to providing excellent service to ensure positive patient outcomes and high levels of customer satisfaction. The Central Sterile Processing Specialist must be proactive in identifying and resolving issues related to instrument availability and workflow efficiency. This role is essential in supporting the surgical team and ensuring that all necessary instruments are ready and available for use during procedures. The specialist will also be involved in inventory control and may assist with purchasing supplies as needed, contributing to the overall operational efficiency of the surgical services department.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the Central Sterile Processing Team Leader and Surgical Services Supply Manager to meet regulatory and policy requirements.
  • Manage the decontamination, processing, sterilization, storage, and documentation of surgical instruments.
  • Direct workflow to ensure the availability of appropriate instrumentation for surgical procedures.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area to support efficient operations.
  • Acquire necessary resources to support surgical services.
  • Document all processes accurately to comply with health regulations and hospital policies.
  • Assist with inventory control and purchasing of surgical supplies.

Requirements

  • High School graduate or equivalent preferred.
  • Certification in Central Sterile Processing (CSP) or experience as a Scrub Technologist or nurse is strongly preferred.
  • CSP Certification within two years of service is strongly preferred.
  • At least 1 year of OR experience, including knowledge of instrumentation and sterile processing.
  • Knowledge of inventory control and purchasing.
