About The Position

The groundskeeper maintains the external grounds of The Salvation Army Blackmarsh Road cemetery. This role is funded through the Canada Summer Jobs program and requires applicants to meet specific eligibility criteria, including age and legal status. The position involves performing various outdoor maintenance tasks to ensure the cemetery grounds are well-kept and safe.

Requirements

  • Must be willing to obtain a Criminal Police Check.
  • Must sign the Code of Conduct Receipt & Acknowledgement Form.
  • Up to 1 year of prior related experience in lawn maintenance and general familiarity with lawn equipment.
  • Knowledge of Health & Safety Standards.
  • Represent the organization in a professional, and engaging manner.
  • Ability to work independently and also participate as an active and responsible team member in a cooperative team environment.
  • Self-motivated and reliable.
  • Strong sense of integrity and confidentiality.
  • Effective organizational and time management skills.
  • Attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
  • Exhibit good listening and interpersonal skills.
  • Must comply with all Salvation Army policies, procedures, and associated legislation.

Responsibilities

  • Ensures the general upkeep of external property such as mowing lawns, picking up litter, sweeping sidewalks, gardening/watering and planting shrubs, pruning and weeding and raking.
  • Services external amenities.
  • Inspect grounds for obstacles and hazards and have them removed or disposed of as required.
  • Level soil over graves (includes raking, moving of soil using wheelbarrow and shovelling).
  • Picks up equipment and supplies.
  • Ensure proper storage and basic maintenance of equipment.
  • Report damage, vandalism, hazards etc. to supervisor.
  • May include painting/staining.
  • Be responsible for managing your own time.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Use personal prescribed safety equipment and clothing as directed by the employer.
  • Report any workplace hazards, dangers, safety issues, injuries, or illness’ immediately and ensure care is taken with all equipment and property.
  • Work in compliance with OH&S Act and Regulations and abide by The Salvation Army’s health and safety policies and procedures.
  • Performs other work-related duties as assigned.
