About the position

The Cellular Therapy Technician plays a crucial role in preparing hematopoietic stem cell components for transplantation or infusion, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards and contributing to the overall quality of patient care. This position involves performing specialized laboratory procedures, maintaining equipment, and collaborating with medical staff to support patient treatment plans.

Responsibilities

  • Performs routine and specialized procedures such as processing, cryopreservation, and infusion preparation of harvested bone marrow, peripheral blood stem cells, and umbilical cord blood.
  • Ensures compliance with standards and regulations set forth by CAP, FDA, CLIA, JCAHO, NCCLS, AABB, and FACT.
  • Assists Medical Director with the evaluation of new processing and technical procedures and instrumentation.
  • Develops research protocols and compiles/presents data to Medical Director.
  • Operates and maintains laboratory instrumentation according to established protocols.
  • Recognizes problems, troubleshoots, and ensures repairs are completed; provides instruction and orientation to new employees.
  • Collects, maintains, evaluates data, and prepares statistical reports for various stakeholders.
  • Serves as a technical liaison with medical and nursing staff.

Requirements

  • BS in biological sciences or related field is required.
  • Minimum of one year of clinical laboratory experience in a laboratory performing high complexity testing or advanced training in a Molecular Biology program.
  • Initial and ongoing training and competencies as defined by service line, facility, and department/unit.

Nice-to-haves

  • BS Degree in Medical Technology or Molecular Biology plus 2+ years experience in a clinical molecular laboratory.
  • Baccalaureate degree in chemistry, biology, or medical technology preferred; 2 years of experience in hematology, blood bank, flow cytometry, or hematopoietic cell processing.
