About the position

The Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL) is seeking a dedicated Research Scientist specializing in cell biology to lead advanced research projects focused on cellular and tissue models. This role involves conducting in vitro and in vivo experiments, utilizing advanced molecular biology techniques, and collaborating with a multidisciplinary team to investigate cellular injury and repair mechanisms. The position is integral to mission-relevant programs within the Human Health Sciences Group of the Biosciences and Biotechnology Division.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and implement in vitro experiments using 2D and 3D rat and human cell models.
  • Collaborate with other scientists for in vivo experiments.
  • Utilize advanced cell and molecular biology techniques to investigate mechanisms of cellular injury and repair.
  • Evaluate large data sets to refine and design subsequent experiments.
  • Conduct literature reviews on state-of-the-art approaches relevant to the research problem.
  • Train and mentor early career and technician level staff.
  • Collaborate and interact with inter-organizational contacts and external customers.
  • Prepare and present technical reports.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. in Cell Biology or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Significant experience with human and rat cell cultures, particularly cardiac and neuronal cells.
  • Experience with electrophysiology, immunostaining, flow cytometry, and multi-omics (especially single-cell RNA sequencing).
  • Proficiency in R for data analyses and advanced understanding of statistics for longitudinal datasets.
  • Practical experience with multi-omics sample preparation and analyses.
  • Ability to secure and maintain a U.S. DOE Q-level security clearance.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with animal models for toxicological assessment.
  • Experience with histology and immunohistochemistry.
