About the position

The Korean Spoken Language Interpreter is an independent contractor responsible for facilitating accurate and professional interpretations in various settings, including medical, legal, and educational environments. The role requires proficiency in both English and Korean, adherence to ethical standards, and the ability to work independently while meeting performance expectations. Interpreters will utilize technology for scheduling and billing, and are expected to represent the Hands Up Communications brand positively.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitate face-to-face conversations in various settings such as emergency rooms, medical, legal, social services, and educational environments.
  • Effectively interpret between individuals speaking different languages, accurately conveying critical information.
  • Perform grammatically and syntactically accurate translations.
  • Maintain punctuality and attendance, informing scheduling staff of any issues promptly.
  • Collaborate with other interpreters as needed.
  • Exhibit professional behavior, including appropriate attire and attitude.
  • Adhere to ethical standards and confidentiality requirements during interpreting assignments.
  • Represent the Hands Up Communications brand positively in customer interactions.
  • Mentor and provide feedback to interns when possible.
  • Utilize technology for accurate reporting related to billing, scheduling, and service evaluation.

Requirements

  • Bilingual in English and Korean.
  • High school diploma or GED required; Bachelor's degree preferred or Associate's degree accepted with relevant experience.
  • Under 1 year of interpreting experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of community, culture, and values related to the language being interpreted.
  • Ability to obtain local, regional, or national credentials as required.
  • Compliance with national, state, or local licensure and certification requirements.

Nice-to-haves

  • Credentialed in medical interpreting completed or in progress with Hands Up Communications.
  • Ability to interpret for extended periods of time.
  • Experience working in various settings, both indoor and outdoor.
