About the position

The CDL A Driver at Black River Produce plays a vital role in the food supply chain, ensuring that food and food service products are delivered safely and on time to customers. This position is not just about driving; it involves building lasting relationships with customers and representing the company positively. The driver will operate a tractor trailer or straight truck on various routes, including intrastate and interstate deliveries, while adhering to Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations. The job requires a commitment to safety, professionalism, and customer service, as drivers are often the face of the company during deliveries. In this role, the driver will be responsible for performing pre and post-trip inspections of the vehicle, ensuring that it meets safety standards and is in good working condition. They will communicate effectively with customers, vendors, and co-workers, addressing any questions or concerns promptly. The driver will also be tasked with unloading products, verifying deliveries, and collecting payments when necessary. Maintaining accurate records of hours of service and ensuring that all paperwork is completed correctly is essential. Responsibilities

  • Communicates and interacts with customers, vendors, and co-workers professionally, ensuring questions are answered accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Functions as a team member within the department and organization, performing any duty assigned to best serve the company.
  • Performs all required safety checks (i.e., pre/post trip) including inspections of tractor/truck and trailer according to DOT regulations.
  • Reports all safety issues and/or repairs required.
  • Follows all DOT regulations and company safe driving guidelines and policies.
  • Immediately reports all safety hazards and inspects trailer for properly loaded and secured freight.
  • Performs count check of items and checks customer invoices of products that have been loaded.
  • Checks and completes all required paperwork associated with freight accurately and legibly.
  • Moves tractor to the loading dock and attaches preloaded trailer as needed.
  • Drives to and delivers customer orders according to predetermined route delivery schedule.
  • Unloads products from the trailer and transports items into designated customer storage areas.
  • Performs damage control checks on items, scans, and contacts supervisor about removing orders according to company policy.
  • Verifies delivery of items with customer and obtains proper signatures.
  • Collects money (cash or checks) where required and loads customer returns onto trailer, securing trailer doors.
  • Ensures that tractor, trailer, and freight are appropriately locked and/or secured.
  • Unloads damaged goods and customer returns and brings them to the driver check-in, completing necessary paperwork.
  • Completes daily record of hours of service and enters it in the log in accordance with Federal DOT, state, and company requirements.
  • Performs general housekeeping duties in tractor, loading dock area, and keeps trailers clear and clean as required.
  • At the end of the shift, secures all equipment and completes all necessary paperwork.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma/GED or Equivalent
  • 12 months commercial driving experience
  • Valid CDL-A
  • Must be 21+ years of age
  • Meet all State licensing and/or certification requirements (where applicable)
  • Clean Motor Vehicle Report (MVR) for past 3 years
  • Pass post-offer drug test and criminal background check
  • Pass road test
  • Attains or has valid current DOT Health Card and/or able to secure new DOT Health Card
  • Able to hand-lift and utilize two-wheeler, lift gate and/or other equipment to move and/or stack product cases/freight of varying size and weight throughout shift; product generally ranges from between 10-35 pounds and up to between approximately 60 and 90 pounds, depending on the location.
