About The Position

Performs CT scanning procedures at a technical level requiring constant attention to technical detail, requiring independent judgment, ingenuity and initiative to apply prescribed ionizing radiologic diagnosis. Operates control console for patient's scan, selects proper imaging techniques and protocols, and operates various peripheral hardware and equipment. Maintains, sets up, and adjusts equipment, checking calibration and recalibrating daily. Positions patients on examination tables and adjusts immobilization devices as required to obtain optimum views of specified areas of the body requested by a physician, observing all health and safety precautions, quality assurance, and infection control standards. Receives requests for radiologic studies, provides explanations of procedures, and answers patient questions to reduce anxiety and obtain cooperation. Assumes care for the physical and emotional needs of patients during examinations and procedures to ensure safety and comfort. Assists physicians and/or nurses with monitoring and treatment of patients during procedures. Records all required information to provide permanent records of significant anatomical or pathological data. Immediately reviews CT imaging and cross-sectional anatomy and relays any emergent findings to the Radiologist. Begins IVs on patients for contrast-enhanced CT exams and provides oral contrast guidelines to patients or RNs. Applies principles of radiographic protection using beam restriction devices, patient shielding skills, and knowledge of applicable exposure factors to minimize radiation to patients and staff. Applies ionizing radiation to patients according to established practices and procedures. Coordinates work to achieve maximum productivity and efficiency, assuring timely completion of work. Evaluates images for technical quality, maintains proficiency in EMR and PACS systems, and maintains adequate radiology records. Assists physicians with the administration of radiographic contrast media or its direct administration if trained and sanctioned by the Radiologist. Maintains a thorough knowledge of departmental and Hospital policies and procedures, including fire and disaster plans, and complies with Infection Control policies and procedures. Participates in activities that promote professional self-growth and development, meeting continuing education requirements. Maintains ethical relationships with patients, physicians, personnel, and guests, ensuring patient confidentiality. Consistently provides service excellence to all patients, family members, visitors, volunteers, and coworkers. Performs other work-related duties as assigned or requested.

Requirements

  • Ability to read, write and communicate in English
  • Graduate an accredited program in Radiologic Technology
  • Valid Massachusetts State License from Massachusetts Radiation Control Board in Radiography and CT
  • Must meet one of the following qualifications: o (ARRT) – Current registration by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists in CT o (NMTBC) Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board in Cat Scan (CT)
  • (BLS) - Basic Life Support certification.

  • Assumes care for physical and psychological needs of patients during examinations and procedures to ensure safety and comfort while preparing for and while undergoing computerized tomography procedures.
  • Assist physician and/or nurse with monitoring and treatment of patients during procedures.
  • Record all required information to provide permanent records of significant and/or functional anatomical or pathologic data obtained.
  • Immediately reviews CT imaging and cross-sectional anatomy and relays any emergent findings to Radiologist.
  • Begins IVs on patients for contrast enhanced CT exams and gives/instructs patient/RN on any oral contrast guidelines.
  • Apply principles of radiographic protection using beam restriction devices, patient shielding skills, and knowledge of applicable exposure factors, to minimize radiation to patients and staff.
  • Applies ionizing radiation to patients according to established practices and procedures.
  • Coordinate work to achieve maximum productivity and efficiency using and/or modifying established procedures, to assure timely completion of work in conformance with department policies and procedures.
  • Evaluates images for technical quality
  • Maintains proficiency in EMR and PACS system
  • Maintain adequate radiology records to assure proper identification
  • Assist physician with administration of radiographic contrast media or its direct administration if trained and sanctioned by the Radiologist
  • Maintain a thorough knowledge of departmental and Hospital policies and Procedures as they pertain to the job, including the fire and disaster plans.
  • Comply with Infection Control policies and procedures.
  • Participates in activities which promote professional self-growth and development; meeting minimum requirements for continuing education as directed by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists and Massachusetts State Licensing.
  • Maintain an ethical relationship with patients, physicians, personnel and guests and insures patient confidentiality at all times.
  • Consistently provides service excellence to all patients, family members, visitors, volunteers and coworkers.
  • Performs other work related duties as assigned or requested.
