About the position

As a Cashier/Checker at Fred Meyer, you will create an outstanding customer experience through exceptional service. Your role will involve establishing and maintaining a safe and clean environment that encourages our customers to return. Responsibilities

  • Be visible and actively greet, engage, and assist customers.
  • Process customer transactions through the check lane quickly, accurately, and efficiently.
  • Understand the Point of Sale (POS) system and handle various payment methods according to company policy.
  • Adhere to company limits on cash shortages and/or overages.
  • Understand and adhere to guidelines on restricted sale items.
  • Report pricing discrepancies to the Scan Coordinator.
  • Follow established policies and procedures for postage stamps, gift cards, and coupons.
  • Stay current with present, future, seasonal, and special ads.
  • Adhere to all food safety regulations and guidelines.
  • Reinforce safety programs by complying with safety procedures and identifying unsafe conditions.
  • Practice preventive maintenance by inspecting equipment and notifying management of any repairs needed.
  • Create an environment that enables customers to feel welcome, important, and appreciated.
  • Answer questions regarding products sold within the department and throughout the store.
  • Adhere to all local, state, and federal laws, and company guidelines.
  • Work cooperatively in a high-paced and sometimes stressful environment.
  • Manage conflict in a reasonable, nonconfrontational, and cooperative manner.
  • Act with honesty and integrity regarding customer and business information.
  • Follow directions and seek assistance when necessary to resolve customer and business issues.
  • Provide support and assistance through direct interaction with minors, individuals with special needs, and older adults.

Requirements

  • Customer service experience.
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Knowledge of basic math (counting, addition, and subtraction).

Nice-to-haves

  • Prior experience as a Bagger or Courtesy Clerk.
