About The Position

The Cashier is responsible for accurately and efficiently processing customer transactions while providing exceptional customer service. This role requires working a flexible schedule, handling various forms of payment, and maintaining knowledge of store policies and promotions. Cashiers are key contributors to a positive shopping experience for all customers.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 2–3 years of related work experience
  • Mathematical Skills
  • Must pass an initial Cashier’s test
  • Able to run a cash register efficiently
  • Able to read and speak in English
  • Must be able to uphold our company’s mission statement
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills for interacting with staff and customers
  • Adhere to all local and federal safety and environmental codes, ordinances, standards and laws; adhere to all Pay-Less Markets and local safety plans, policies, practices and standards; be aware of and follow all safety rules of your work site; report any unsafe conditions or accidents to your supervisor and participate in mandatory or available safety training.

Responsibilities

  • Accurately rings up grocery items using the point-of-sale (POS) system.
  • Accepts and processes various payment types, including U.S. currency, WIC checks, food stamps, personal checks, and credit/debit cards.
  • Provides courteous and friendly service under the “Customer Friendly Service” guidelines.
  • Responds to customer inquiries regarding promotions, policies, and item locations.
  • Directs customers or retrieves products upon request to assist with locating merchandise.
  • May assist with bagging groceries and helping customers as needed.
  • Memorizes and applies product codes accurately (e.g., produce, bulk items).
  • Participates in monthly and year-end inventory counts as assigned.
  • May assist in collecting carts and baskets from the parking area.
  • Supports other departments by stocking merchandise on shelves when necessary.
  • Maintains cognizance of products and product code codes sold in the store, store documentation, advertising/promotions, programs, projects, policies, practices, procedures, rules and regulations and correspondingly answers customers’ questions. To also include Maolek Rewards/ Maolek Pricing.
  • Maintains knowledge of “velocity codes”-codes that identifies produce, magazines, cased items, etc.-for ease of tabulating prices.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.
