About the position
The Cashier at Millington Bargain Barn is responsible for providing excellent customer service by greeting customers, processing transactions accurately, and maintaining a clean and organized store environment. This role involves operating the point of sale (POS) system, handling cash transactions, and supporting the mission of Memphis Goodwill through community engagement initiatives.
Responsibilities
- Greet customers in a prompt, friendly, and courteous manner, both in person and via phone.
- Operate the POS system to ensure accurate and efficient sales data and pricing.
- Handle cash transactions properly, including processing coupons and discounts.
- Ensure the integrity of the 'Change Round-up' program by asking customers to round up their change for community support.
- Clean front doors, counters, and glass frequently, and maintain cleanliness in the store.
- Return shopping carts and baskets to appropriate areas and unsold merchandise to proper locations.
- Assist with promotions, including customer information and special sign displays.
- Stock and maintain the counter, showcases, and cash/wraps in a neat and clean condition.
- Work safely and adhere to proper handling of material movement equipment.
- Assist in training new cashiers and cleaning dressing rooms as needed.
- Place merchandise onto the sales floor in the correct location and rotate stock as needed.
- Adhere to all Memphis Goodwill policies and procedures, including safety practices and reporting hazards.
- Participate in activities outside of Goodwill as requested.
- Attend in-service and related training as assigned.
Requirements
- Strong customer service skills and ability to communicate effectively.
- Experience operating a cash register or POS system.
- Basic math skills for handling cash transactions accurately.
- Ability to maintain a clean and organized work environment.
- Willingness to assist in training new employees.
