About the position

The Carrier Representative at RJW Logistics is responsible for managing logistics orders by sourcing and negotiating with transportation carriers to ensure cost-effective solutions. This entry-level position focuses on expanding the carrier base, building relationships with carriers and customers, and resolving shipment-related issues. The role requires effective communication and problem-solving skills, as well as the ability to work under pressure.

Responsibilities

• Broker available freight and book orders with carriers via phone, e-mail, and load posting services.
• Negotiate rates with carriers to move available freight.
• Contact shippers/consignees for appointment scheduling.
• Monitor and participate in the dispatching of drivers when needed.
• Assist in resolving problems related to shipments as necessary.
• Build and maintain customer relations, keeping them informed of order status and potential issues.
• Provide quotes on new lanes when requested.
• Source and sign up new carriers, entering them into the logistics software.
• Promote goodwill with all carriers and continuously expand the carrier base.
• Back up Customer Service and Track and Trace shipments when needed.
• Provide proof of delivery (PODs) to customers when required.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• 1 year of experience in logistics and/or transportation.
• Knowledge of Business Operating Systems, Internet software, Word Processing, and Spreadsheet software.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Strong problem-solving and resolution skills.
• Ability to work under pressure and multi-task effectively.
• Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience in carrier sales or brokerage (1 year preferred).
• Familiarity with logistics software.
