About the position

The Career Services Counselor at Carnegie Mellon University's Integrated Innovation Institute is responsible for providing tailored career coaching and support to graduate students in the Master of Integrated Innovation for Products & Services (MIIPS) program. This role involves assisting students in navigating their career goals through various methods such as one-on-one appointments, workshops, and information sessions. The counselor will also maintain career resources, track employment data, and collaborate with other departments to enhance student career development.

Responsibilities

  • Provide tailored career coaching and support to MIIPS students through 1:1 appointments, office hours, workshops, mock interviews, and information sessions.
  • Create and maintain updated resume books for students' internships and full-time job searches.
  • Provide updated resumes for employer relations to assist with tailored outreach to employers.
  • Serve as a liaison, disseminating information about job opportunities to students and gathering feedback regarding standout experiences with employers.
  • Lead tech treks, site visits, and other student activities with employers.
  • Liaison with key departments for student needs, such as the Office of International Education and the Career and Professional Development Center.
  • Stay abreast of hiring and recruiting trends in relevant industries to assist students in their job search strategies.
  • Develop career resources and materials tailored toward MIIPS students' interests and needs.
  • Communicate through Slack, email, and other resources to reach students.
  • Present engaging and tailored workshops on topics related to MIIPS students' career development.
  • Track and report student employment data around internships and first destination outcomes for MIIPS students.
  • Collaborate with Alumni Relations Manager on students' employment locations upon graduation.
  • Prepare career-related reports and provide information to faculty, advisors, or other departments.
  • Maintain student career records, sign CPT/OPT forms, and track internship approval process for residential MIIPS.
  • Help with departmental projects and other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution (required); higher education administration or counseling focus preferred.
  • Higher education experience (not required, but a plus).
  • Exceptional verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills in a diverse environment.
  • Strong analytical and evaluation skills.
  • Familiarity with roles/industries commonly pursued by MIIPS graduate students such as design, product, and engineering related roles.
  • Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in higher education administration or counseling.
  • Familiarity with project management tools, such as Monday.com.
