About the position

The Career Counselor position at Aleut Federal, LLC is a full-time role focused on providing guidance and support to students in a residential career training program. The counselor is responsible for assisting students with personal and social development, vocational training, and educational goals, while modeling and mentoring excellence in career success standards. This role involves collaboration with various departments to ensure students receive the necessary support for successful transitions from education to employment.

Responsibilities

  • Counsel students in all aspects of center life, including personal and social development, vocational and educational training.
  • Collaborate with other departments to meet the needs of each student.
  • Continuously assess and evaluate assigned students both formally and informally.
  • Assist students in continuing their education or entering additional training, and connect them with community services.
  • Document a minimum of two monthly counseling sessions for minors and one for adult students.
  • Encourage adult students to sign permission forms for counselor contact.
  • Conduct ESP and PCDP reviews and document them according to established time frames.
  • Assist students in setting short and long-term goals and resolving personal issues affecting their careers.
  • Complete ongoing assignments from Counseling/OCT Supervisors and other program administration.
  • Submit written reports and evaluations as needed to outside agencies or the Center Director.
  • Participate in joint sessions with resident advisors and the Center Mental Health Consultant.
  • Review student records and complete special needs requests for additional counseling.
  • Co-facilitate small group social skills sessions, including employability skills and career success standards.
  • Develop close working relationships with the Center Mental Health staff.
  • Participate in Career Management Team decisions and assess students' transitional support needs.
  • Provide training to center staff on counseling-related topics.
  • Participate in student orientation and development of employability plans.
  • Perform AWOL retrieval tasks and manage student leave requests.
  • Track and manage projection data to ensure students are progressing as expected.
  • Conduct intake interviews for new enrollees within 72 hours of onboarding.
  • Monitor students' attendance and address conduct issues as necessary.
  • Serve as Counselor on Duty on weekends in a rotational schedule.
  • Attend required staff training and model appropriate employability skills.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree with 15 semester hours in Social Sciences or a related field.
  • One year of experience in a counseling capacity or related field.
  • Valid State driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
