About The Position

Children's Mercy is seeking a Care Assistant for the 4 Sutherland unit, a 23-bed Medical/Surgical unit specializing in the care of cardiac patients ranging from infants to early adults. This unit collaborates with various specialized teams to manage primary diagnoses such as congenital heart defects, heart failure and transplant, and heart rhythm abnormalities. Care Assistants provide basic, uncomplicated patient care and assist with unit operations under the supervision of registered nurses. The organization is transparent about its health and safety policies, noting that the seasonal influenza vaccine is a condition of employment, and new employees must be willing to be vaccinated for measles, mumps, rubella (MMR), chickenpox (varicella), and have evidence of tetanus, diphtheria, acellular pertussis (Tdap) vaccination. Medical and/or religious exemptions can be discussed with Human Resources.

Requirements

• HS diploma or equivalent
• No Experience necessary / On-the-Job Training
• Experience in patient or customer facing roles preferred
• Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) or one of the following criteria must be met:
• Enrolled in a professional (BSN/AD) or practical (LPN) nursing education program and have successfully completed the fundamentals in nursing course.
• Within the past 3 years, was a professional (BSN/AD) or practical (LPN) nursing licensure candidate who failed to pass the state licensure examination in any state.
• Completed an UAP (unlicensed assistive personnel) program in Missouri or another State (that meets current regulatory requirements) within the past 3 years.
• Completed a professional (BSN/AD) or practical (LPN) nursing program outside the United States and is awaiting the licensure examination in this country.
• Worked as a nurse assistant, emergency medical technician (EMT), or surgical technician within the past 3 years.
• Some units may require bilingual skills.
• Required BLS certification Required Upon Hire

Responsibilities

• Provides supportive patient care.
• Assists in the maintenance of a safe environment and promotes efficient and safe operations.
• Unit Secretary/clerical functions.
• Attends education programs, unit meetings and assigned committees.
• Shares responsibility for teaching and orientation of new personnel (within own skills)
