About The Position

A Cardiology Fellow participates in an organized three-year postgraduate educational program that trains the physician in cardiovascular medicine. The fellow has daily contact with patients and assumes increasing responsibility for their care under the supervision of the attending staff of the hospital. The assumption of responsibility is the most important aspect of the fellow's training. As each fellow physician demonstrates increasing knowledge and ability in cardiovascular medicine, an increasing amount of reliance should be placed in their judgment in the diagnosis and treatment of patients. The physician is given the opportunity to put into practice the principles of preventive medicine, diagnosis, therapy, and patient management which they learned as a resident. Under the supervision of the attending staff, they are given progressively increasing responsibility so that they acquire confidence in their clinical judgment. For the training to be approved, the hospital where the residency is served must be approved by the Board of Directors of Palmetto General Hospital, the American Osteopathic Association (AOA) and/or the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME).
