About The Position

The Shreiber School of Veterinary Medicine of Rowan University (SSVM) is seeking Veterinary Assistants and Veterinary Technicians to join our new veterinary program and teaching hospital. The hospital is located 1.5 miles from our main Glassboro campus. SSVM is a new and innovative veterinary teaching hospital for small animals, equipped with state-of-the-art equipment. The teaching hospital is designed to accommodate multiple specialty departments, including anesthesia, cardiology, dermatology, dentistry and oral surgery, diagnostic imaging, emergency/critical care, exotics, internal medicine, neurology, oncology, ophthalmology, primary care, and surgery. These positions will support the clinical services in the veterinary teaching hospital treating patients and educating students. Requirements

  • Credentialed, evidence of passing the VTNE (for Veterinary Technicians)
  • Minimum 5 years clinical experience (for Veterinary Technician Level 1 & 2)
  • Minimum 3 years clinical experience (for Veterinary Technician Level 3)
  • Associate degree or higher (for Veterinary Assistants)
  • Minimum 5 years clinical experience (for Veterinary Assistant Level 1)
  • Minimum 3 years clinical experience (for Veterinary Assistant Level 2)
  • Has a minimum of 2 years' experience working in a veterinary specialty or emergency department/service
  • Comfortable with anesthetic patient monitoring of ASA I-III (preferred experience with ASA I-V)
  • Has experience in anesthesia and surgical assisting and post-operative care
  • Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the US, and the university will not sponsor an applicant for a work visa for this position.

Nice To Haves

  • Veterinary Technician Specialist (VTS) certification eligible or achieved, or equivalent specialty-level expertise (for Veterinary Technician Level 1)
  • CVT/LVT/RVT (active license)
  • Excellent problem-solving abilities (judgment, logic, creativity, conflict resolution)
  • Familiar with common cardiac disease, cardiac surgery and post operative care
  • Familiar with advanced imaging modalities such as Echocardiogram and Fluoroscopy
  • Strong attention to detail

Responsibilities

  • Prepare animals and instruments for surgery
  • Able to obtain blood pressure, interpret basic ECG, Sp02, and ETC02 and integrate clinical signs with disease processes to assist doctors in early and appropriate intervention of patient care
  • Provide superior nursing care or emergency first aid to recovering or injured animals
  • Able to observe the behavior and condition of animals
  • Comfortable utilizing digital radiography machines to acquire images using proper technique and positioning
  • Comfortable utilizing advanced diagnostic equipment
