This role involves preparing the necessary equipment, prepping patients, and explaining the procedures to ensure a smooth experience for the patients. The sonographer will also review the images obtained, report findings, and analyze the patient's clinical history to identify the purpose of the examination. Additionally, the Cardiac Sonographer may assist physicians in procedure rooms and operating rooms by performing echocardiographic studies that aid in complex procedures, thereby decreasing risk factors. They will assist in performing transesophageal studies with cardiologists, calculating appropriate measurements, and ensuring the sterilization of probes. The sonographer will also be responsible for recording statistics, performing daily maintenance of the Echocardiography Lab and its equipment, and reporting any malfunctions as appropriate. Acting as a resource to other staff, physicians, and students regarding equipment, techniques, procedures, and studies is also a key part of this role. The sonographer will work closely with the cardiac sonographer quality coordinator to ensure adherence to quality processes and protocols and assist with ICAEL accreditation activities as delegated.
