About the position

The Cardiac Cath Lab Tech at St. Rose Hospital is responsible for maintaining a therapeutic environment for patients undergoing cardiac catheterization and related procedures. This role involves performing specialized invasive cardiovascular diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, assisting physicians, monitoring patients, and ensuring compliance with safety protocols. The position requires a blend of technical skills, patient care, and collaboration with medical staff to deliver high-quality cardiovascular services.

Responsibilities

  • Perform specialized & routine diagnostic & interventional radiology procedures.
  • Assist qualified physicians in fluoroscopic & special x-ray examinations.
  • Record, store, retrieve, & analyze data obtained during procedures.
  • Monitor the patient to recognize changes in ECG rhythm & pressure, documenting & communicating to the physician.
  • Assist with procedures, ensuring compliance with aseptic techniques.
  • Provide imaging during procedures.
  • Complete documentation, reports & data entry on computerized exams.
  • Maintain & evaluate equipment, perform quality control tests, troubleshoot & perform minor repairs.
  • Assist with restocking supplies for the cardiac catheterization lab.
  • Set-up, maintain & monitor IABP equipment.
  • Act as preceptor or assist in the training of new staff.
  • Identify continuous quality improvement issues & assist with quality assurance programs.
  • Comply with off-hour stand-by coverage requirements for emergent procedures.
  • Function independently & autonomously when on stand-by duty.
  • Complete required continuous training & education.
  • Comply with personal protective equipment requirements.
  • Demonstrate knowledge & skills necessary to provide age-appropriate care.
  • Perform hemodynamic & dysrhythmia monitoring & documentation of procedures.
  • Operate & troubleshoot hemodynamic computer systems.
  • Familiarity with the Crash Cart & CVT/Invasive Cardiovascular Specialist role in CPR & defibrillation.
  • Responsible for Quality Control on radiology imaging equipment.
  • Assist the RN with the admission process and monitor during procedures.
  • Record intra-cardiac pressures, ECG, and other physiologic data.
  • Calculate pressures gradients, valve areas, vascular resistance, shunt abnormalities, and cardiac output.
  • Operate Cardiac Output Computer, oximeter and other Cath Lab equipment.
  • Float to other areas to assist radiology as requested.

Requirements

  • Current registered Radiologic Technologist License required.
  • Current CRT license and ARRT license required.
  • Current BCLS and ACLS required; RCIS preferred.
  • High School Diploma or GED; Graduate of an Accredited School of Radiologic Technology.
  • 2-5 years experience in Diagnostic Imaging and 1-2 years experience in Cath Lab preferred.
  • Knowledge of contrast media and coronary artery anatomy.
  • Ability to perform all general diagnostic and routine fluoroscopic duties.

Nice-to-haves

  • RCIS certification within one year from date of hire.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in performing Cardiac Cath and PCI within six months of hire.
