About the position

To further the mission of the camp through the planning and delivery of programs that are safe, fun, and appropriate to the campers' ages and abilities. Under the guidance of the Center Executive Director, Seasonal Program Directors are responsible for the organization, delivery and quality of YMCA camping services summer resident camp programs, program participants and community. This position works independently under general direction and is expected to determine how to accomplish tasks.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the Camp Director's right hand and help create a positive camp environment for all participants and staff.
  • Plan and implement schedules for guests and staff and perform various administrative duties.
  • Supervise seasonal and non-exempt employees and volunteers.
  • Train and develop non-exempt and part-time program staff and volunteers.
  • Plan, assign, and direct staff and volunteer work.
  • Conduct performance appraisals, rewards, and discipline.
  • Monitor and update all required staff certifications.
  • Address complaints and resolve problems.
  • Promote and incorporate the YMCA five core values and character development model into all program activities.
  • Coordinate use of facilities for program activities and events.
  • Respond to all member and community inquiries and complaints in a timely manner.
  • Organize and schedule staff meetings.
  • Review all emergency procedures and respond to emergency situations immediately in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures.
  • Identify ways to improve safety standards.
  • Maintain effective, positive relationships with members, participants, and other staff.
  • Participate enthusiastically in all camp activities, planning, and leading those as assigned.
  • Assist in the planning of any special events.
  • Uphold camp and dining hall procedures.
  • Maintain housekeeping standards and assigned duties.
  • Assist in duties such as night patrol, kitchen patrol, or office help.

Requirements

  • Minimum age of 25.
  • Bachelor's degree from a four-year college or university in recreational management, physical education, or related field, or two to three years related experience.
  • Current certification in first aid and CPR (or willing to obtain during employment).
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong people skills and ability to solve practical problems.
  • California Class C or B with Passenger/Airbrakes Endorsement, current 10-year clean driving record.

Nice-to-haves

  • Previous experience or knowledge in Aquatics, Ropes Course Facilitation, general Maintenance and Housekeeping procedures.
