About the position
The Lead Instructor at Journey to STEAM is responsible for delivering engaging LEGO STEAM programs to students in grades K-5. This part-time, independent contractor role allows for flexible scheduling, primarily in the afternoons during the school year, with opportunities for additional work during school breaks. The instructor will create an interactive learning environment that fosters curiosity and exploration among young learners.
Responsibilities
- Dive deep into the curriculum and concepts, ensuring everyone gains value from the experience.
- Lead each class, ensuring every child is engaged and safe.
- Maintain open communication with parents and clients, addressing questions and concerns respectfully.
- Adhere to safety procedures and guidelines for supervising and releasing children.
- Care for and maintain the LEGO teaching kit(s) and other assigned materials.
- Respond promptly to management communications via various channels.
- Maintain communication with the Lead Instructor, sharing updates and asking questions.
- Lift and carry up to 40 lbs.
Requirements
- Engaging and outgoing personality
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Creativity and adaptability in teaching methods
- Patience and empathy to create a positive learning environment
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Reliable vehicle and valid driver's license
- Experience managing and educating groups of children (e.g., teacher, camp counselor)
- Availability during programming hours (2:30-4:30 PM) two or more days each week
- Willingness to travel to multiple nearby schools/locations
- Availability to teach at least four weeks of school breaks per year
- Some college experience preferred; education majors a plus
