About the position

The Calhoun County Assistance Payments Worker plays a crucial role in supporting Michigan families by ensuring they receive the appropriate public assistance. This position involves assessing the needs of applicants, providing necessary information, and making referrals to help families achieve self-sufficiency. The role offers flexibility with hybrid work options, allowing employees to balance remote and in-office responsibilities.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure that each person/family applying for public assistance receives the appropriate type and level of assistance.
  • Assess the needs of each person/family and provide appropriate information and referrals to agencies.
  • Provide families with information about the expectations and goals of the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS).
  • Encourage and guide families in their efforts to become self-supporting.

Requirements

  • Experience in public assistance programs or related fields.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to assess needs and provide appropriate referrals.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in public health or social services.
  • Knowledge of community resources and support services.
