About The Position

The Nutrition Services Cafeteria Assistant at Vancouver Public Schools is responsible for food preparation and meal service tasks under the direction of the Kitchen Manager. This role requires bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish, and involves tasks such as washing, peeling, and chopping fruits and vegetables, serving meals, assisting the cook or manager, and performing clean-up activities. The position emphasizes adherence to Hazardous Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP) standards and requires the assistant to serve as a positive role model for students.

Requirements

• Bilingual in English and Spanish.
• Possess a current Washington State Food Workers Card.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• At least 12 months experience cooking in any foodservice establishment within the last 3 years.
• Demonstrated successful experience as a VPS kitchen substitute.

Responsibilities

• Perform food preparation tasks including washing, peeling, and chopping fruits and vegetables.
• Serve and count meals at the point-of-service.
• Assist the cook or manager as needed.
• Perform clean-up activities such as washing dishes and equipment.
• Monitor food prepared and served for temperature and appearance following HACCP procedures.
• Stock groceries and supplies in storage areas.
• Operate kitchen equipment and maintain cleanliness of work area.
• Communicate with parents regarding students' special dietary needs.
