About the position

The Cafeteria Aide II position at Bridgeport Public Schools involves cooking food for all phases of cafeteria operations using established menus and recipes. The role requires overseeing the location as the lead and supervising the staff provided. Responsibilities include ensuring food quality and temperature controls, caring for and cleaning all equipment used in operations, and adhering to all USDA and Connecticut program regulations. The position requires effective supervision of personnel and record-keeping. The Cook Manager reports to the designated School Site Supervisor, who in turn reports to the Director. The Cafeteria Aide II may also substitute for the Cafeteria Aide IV when required.

Responsibilities

  • Complete required daily/weekly/monthly reports such as meal count sheets, inventory, cash reports, production record, edit check sheet and all other reports requested.
  • Forecast quantity of food to prepare and cook, heat, and/or package product according to projections and recipes.
  • Follow and adhere to standardized recipes, slice meats, mix and prepare foods, and operate kitchen equipment necessary for food preparation.
  • Collaborate with supervisor in meal preparation, minimize food waste, and recommend new recipes and innovations to current menus and recipes.
  • Prepare and order food and supplies using the correct software program or proper forms.
  • Oversee and coordinate the schedule and work of all kitchen personnel in compliance with departmental policy.
  • Receive, maintain, and store all food, supplies, and equipment in a sanitary and orderly fashion (FIFO).
  • Control quality and quantity of food prepared and served utilizing Offer vs. Serve.
  • Maintain proper usage and storage of chemicals and MSDS sheets and instruct staff on proper usage.
  • Train new employees in the school.
  • Conduct staff meetings as needed.
  • Perform assorted tasks during any shutdown periods.
  • Exercise good verbal and written skills when communicating with the public, including students, staff, school personnel, and Supervisors.
  • Maintain clean and sanitary conditions in all kitchen work areas including food service equipment and storerooms.
  • Maintain a safe work environment.
  • Perform all duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Schedule and supervise Cafeteria Aide I and Cafeteria Assistants work assignments.
  • Candidates must have and maintain Certified Food Protection Manager (CFPM) certification.
  • High School diploma or equivalency required.
  • Perform all assigned duties promptly and accurately.
  • Responsible for general cleanliness of kitchen areas.
  • Adhere to current uniform requirements including no jewelry or nail polish.
  • Must be honest, accurate, and accountable.

Benefits

  • Salary of $34,526.00 (Step 1)
  • 10-month position, 40 hours per week
