About The Position

The CAD Mechanical Design Manager will support the BWRX-300 Small Modular Reactor (SMR) project for GE Vernova Hitachi Nuclear Energy (GVH). This role provides leadership to a diverse technical team of engineers and scientists responsible for creating solid models and drawings of nuclear buildings using 3D modeling software and developing 2D/3D layouts for New Nuclear Plant Projects. The position requires applying knowledge of design, modeling, and drawing practices, and guiding the team to solve design issues with the Engineering team.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering Discipline (Mechanical, Nuclear or similar) from an accredited college or University
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in technology or engineering role
  • 3 years of experience with BWR or PWR reactors
  • 3 years of experience Leading or Managing an Engineering Team
  • Ability and willingness to travel to domestic and international sites occasionally (10% to 20%).
  • Must have legal authorization to work in Canada (for Canadian positions).
  • Must be a U.S. person (for U.S. positions) due to access to U.S. export-controlled technology.
  • Final offers will be contingent on ability to obtain authorization for access to U.S. export-controlled information from the U.S. Government (if applicable).

Responsibilities

  • Report to the Senior Engineering Manager – BWRX-300 Design Engineering
  • Provide technical and managerial leadership for a diverse team, ensuring on-time delivery of design products within budget.
  • Lead a team of 3D Designers (internal and external) to ensure nuclear building models, assemblies, and layouts are created using 3D modeling software in accordance with procedures.
  • Perform 3D model interference resolution, space control, and design studies as required.
  • Coordinate drafting needs with engineering managers, project engineers, and program managers.
  • Ensure necessary design intent/requirements are captured and documented.
  • Establish and maintain standards and procedures for generating models and associated drawings.
  • Collaborate with configuration management to ensure proper data configuration control and manage CAD Software configuration.
  • Inspire, hire, coach, and ensure the development of the team’s technical and leadership talent/depth.
  • Establish and maintain strong working relationships with other internal engineering team managers, business leaders, and stakeholders.
  • Interface with external partners, customers, and applicable country-specific regulatory agencies on technical issues.
  • Provide leadership supporting performance and program management of assigned work, ensuring on-time fulfillment of engineering commitments in accordance with contract requirements, business procedures, industry standards, and regulatory agency guidelines.
  • Plan, organize, and manage the delivery of technical activities/tasks in support of engineering deliverables.
  • Support commercial and marketing opportunities to develop new business opportunities.
  • Protect the Intellectual Property rights of GVH.
  • Support GVH initiatives, process improvement, and simplification.
  • Support GVH Nuclear Energy quality requirements, including participation in design reviews, initiating Condition Reports, and responding to Corrective Actions.
  • Ensure adherence to GVH’s standards for nuclear safety and compliance.
  • Partner with business teams and present product/program strategies, technical roadmaps, risks, and recommendations to senior leads across GVH.
