About the position

The CAD Mapping/GIS Analyst position at the County of Santa Barbara is a full-time role focused on enhancing emergency response through effective utilization of spatial data and mapping technology. The analyst will work within the Regional Fire Communication Center, ensuring accurate GIS data management and creating informative maps to support decision-making in emergency situations. This role is crucial for maintaining the integrity of GIS databases and facilitating communication among various agencies involved in public safety.

Responsibilities

• Maintain the accuracy and integrity of GIS databases and coverages.
• Create visually accurate and informative maps using ESRI technologies and other mapping software.
• Conduct geospatial analyses to derive insights from spatial data.
• Input, update, and maintain GIS databases and linkages to various databases.
• Prepare detailed maps and layouts of moderate complexity.
• Conduct mapping research to resolve conflicting information and interpret plans.
• Provide GIS services during emergency incidents, including long-duration assignments at incident locations.
• Collaborate with partner agencies to ensure accuracy and timeliness of geospatial data used by the CAD system.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in computer science, information technology, or related field, or five years of experience managing a CAD system for emergency services.
• Experience with ESRI's GIS Suite and ArcGIS extensions.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Access, Microsoft SQL, and Microsoft Excel.
• Knowledge of emergency dispatching and communication principles.
• Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple tasks effectively.
• Excellent communication, interpersonal, and critical thinking skills.

Nice-to-haves

• GIS Professional (GISP) Certification
• Experience with CAD Central Square software and hardware.
• Familiarity with Fire Incident Management tools.
