About the position

The Buyer position at HealthPartners is responsible for purchasing goods and services for the organization, including evaluating and implementing new products. This role involves bid analysis, contract review, and collaboration with the Value Analysis Team (VAT). The Buyer also provides customer service, item maintenance, and problem resolution, ensuring effective procurement processes and supplier management.

Responsibilities

  • Review requisitions and approve or create purchase orders according to established processes.
  • Expedite open purchase orders and resolve discrepancies related to purchase orders, packing slips, and invoices.
  • Assist customers in sourcing products and organize supplier contact to support customer needs.
  • Address customer quality and service concerns, providing problem resolution for customer issues.
  • Support and lead other members of the Purchasing Team and the Value Analysis Team.
  • Assist in the preparation, solicitation, analysis, and presentation of Requests for Proposal (RFP).
  • Develop and maintain product knowledge to serve as a product expert and advocate for customers.
  • Provide input into the development of policies and procedures.
  • Communicate and demonstrate the HealthPartners mission, vision, and values on a daily basis.
  • Perform special projects and committee assignments as directed.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in business or related field and three years of progressive experience as a buyer or purchasing agent, including bids and contracts and supplier management in a medium to large company.
  • Associate's degree in business administration, supply chain management or related area plus three years direct experience as a buyer.
  • Knowledge of Supply Chain Services good practice.
  • Knowledge of and ability to utilize procurement software.
  • Familiarity with Oracle Cloud software is a plus.
  • Ability to prioritize and complete assignments per the assigned deadline with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to identify potential problems in advance and take action to avoid or minimize their impact.
  • Ability to establish and maintain strong, positive working relationships with customers.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with suppliers and other individuals outside of the organization.
  • Ability to provide effective and timely communication.
  • Demonstration of ability to be an excellent steward of resources.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bachelor's degree in business administration, supply chain management or related area.
  • Five years purchasing experience.
  • Hospital, clinic or other healthcare purchasing experience.
  • Strong Microsoft Excel or Access skills.
