About the position

The Buyer position at Columbia Tech serves as a critical link in the procurement process, ensuring the availability of materials necessary for manufacturing customer products. This role involves working closely with project managers and production planners to create a materials availability plan, placing purchase orders, managing delivery schedules, and ensuring the timely delivery of quality materials while maintaining inventory levels.

Responsibilities

  • Place purchase orders on suppliers and manage delivery schedules.
  • Ensure on-time delivery of quality materials.
  • Manage inventory to meet service levels and inventory turnover targets.
  • Review Buy Reports generated by the ERP system and take appropriate actions on buy, defer, expedite, or cancellation signals.
  • Negotiate additional material discounts and terms at the time of order placement.
  • Publish supplier open order reports to custom parts suppliers and communicate any issues to production.
  • Analyze buy messages to maximize VPA and discount terms agreements with Tier 1 & 2 suppliers.
  • Work with Production Planners to ensure material availability to maximize production capacity.
  • Review ECNs and recommend material effectivity dates involving new and/or parts substitutions to production planner.
  • Generate action plans when criteria for material delivery are not met.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree or equivalent experience in a technical or business field.
  • Strong negotiation, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • NAPM or APICS certification (CPIM) is desired.
  • Technical knowledge of purchasing, logistics, planning, and master scheduling.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and sound judgment ability.
  • Strong working knowledge of ERP systems, particularly Epicor.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with commodity management and project management.
  • Familiarity with manufacturing operations.
