The Buyer in Training position at CarMax is designed for individuals who are looking to develop their skills in purchasing and inventory management. This role involves evaluating and negotiating vehicle prices, attending auctions, and making informed purchasing decisions to enhance CarMax's used car inventory. The position emphasizes independent judgment, customer service, and collaboration with various departments to ensure a seamless buying process.

Responsibilities

• Evaluate and negotiate current market prices for vehicles.
• Assess and prepare customer appraisal offers for vehicle purchases.
• Oversee and assist with on-site and virtual wholesale auctions.
• Conduct accurate vehicle condition assessments and communicate findings.
• Manage retail and wholesale margins effectively using reporting expertise.
• Serve as a resource for other departments regarding vehicle conditions and values.
• Utilize technology for collaboration with team members across locations.
• Assist in training and development of Buyer's Assistants and other trainees.
• Deliver exceptional customer service to create iconic customer experiences.
• Support the execution of new store procedures and technology platforms.

Requirements

• Ability to make independent judgments regarding vehicle purchases.
• Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
• Effective communication skills with internal and external customers.
• Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment.
• Understanding of vehicle warranties, auction sales, and pricing trends.
• Valid driver's license required.
