About the position

The Department of Developmental Services (DDS) is seeking to fill a fulltime Accountant II position for the Southeast Regional Business Office, located in Middleboro, MA. This position involves overseeing and entering lower subsidiary requisitions in Commbuys, preparing and inputting purchasing documents into the Massachusetts Management Accounting and Reporting System (MMARS) for a budget of over $20 million, and advising purchasing staff on encumbrances. The role requires independently resolving procurement issues while meeting service needs, monitoring agency financial records, and providing technical assistance regarding State Procurement rules and regulations. The Accountant II will also coordinate state-owned property repair requests and reconcile financial documents to ensure compliance with established standards.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee and enter lower subsidiary requisitions in Commbuys
  • Prepare and input purchasing documents into MMARS for a budget of over $20 million
  • Proof and advise all purchasing staff's encumbrances in excess of 12,000 documents per year
  • Independently resolve procurement issues while meeting service needs of the DDS Southeast Region
  • Monitor and validate agency financial records; apply knowledge of purchasing principles
  • Confer with the Regional Business Manager and Assistant Regional Business Manager regarding OSD issues
  • Coordinate state-owned property repair requests to ensure appropriate actions are taken
  • Reconcile financial documents, records, transactions, and statements

Requirements

  • Two years of full-time or equivalent part-time general accounting or budgeting experience
  • Must be at least eighteen (18) years of age
  • Must possess a current and valid Class D Motor Vehicle Operator's license or equivalent

Nice-to-haves

  • Supervisory experience
  • Working knowledge of MMARS, Commbuys, Vendor Web, and FMIS
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Excel/Access/Word
