About The Position

The Business Communications Senior Advisor is a senior-level communications professional responsible for leading strategic communications for complex provider negotiations, network-related issues, and other high-profile, sensitive business developments within Cigna Healthcare’s U.S. business. This role serves as a trusted advisor to network contracting, sales, business, and communications leaders, providing sound counsel in ambiguous, fast-moving environments while ensuring messaging is clear, consistent, and aligned with business and negotiation objectives. In addition to strategic counsel, this role requires strong project management and execution, paired with the ability to develop and sharpen clear, compelling messaging for a range of audiences. This includes planning, coordinating, and managing complex communications workstreams from strategy through delivery, as well as strong writing and editing skills. The Senior Advisor provides structure and oversight across multiple teams, ensures priorities and sequencing are clearly defined, and helps move work forward efficiently in time-sensitive situations. The ideal candidate combines deep experience in external communications and issues management with the discipline to manage multiple priorities, anticipate risks, and execute effectively. Success in this role requires strong judgment, exceptional writing and editing skills, and the ability to influence cross-functional partners to ensure communications efforts support broader business objectives.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree and at least 7 plus years’ experience with a strong background in issues management, external communications, and/or crisis communications.
  • Proactive self-starter who demonstrates proven ability to operate as a senior advisor, influencing decisions and guiding cross-organizational teams through ambiguity.
  • Exceptional writing and messaging skills for internal and external audiences across multiple communication channels/vehicles.
  • Sound judgment and confidence operating in high‑visibility, high‑pressure situations.
  • Excellent organizational skills and experience handling multiple projects simultaneously, with the ability to tie results to strategic business objectives.
  • Internet connection must be obtained through a cable broadband or fiber optic internet service provider with speeds of at least 10Mbps download/5Mbps upload.

Responsibilities

  • Lead communications strategy for potential public provider negotiations and network issues.
  • Anticipate reputational, regulatory, and market risks and recommend proactive communications approaches.
  • Lead the development and review of communications across internal and external stakeholders to ensure alignment, clarity, and consistency.
  • Provide issues and crisis communications support for sales and client management teams, including in high-profile media situations, public provider negotiations, and other areas.
  • Partner closely with Media Relations, Sales Communications, and other Communications partners on message framing, FAQs, and response strategy.
  • Draft and refine external and negotiation‑related communications materials, ensuring clarity, consistency, and defensibility.
  • Build and improve processes to streamline work, clarify roles, and strengthen coordination across teams that will also enable tracking, scaling, and insights to improve communications over time.
  • Provide strategic oversight of complex communications workstreams, ensuring the right partners are engaged and moving in alignment.
  • Guide priorities, sequencing, and escalation across Communications, Sales, and Network Contracting partners in fast‑moving or highly sensitive scenarios.
  • Ensure clarity on ownership, decision points, and risks, stepping in to resolve gaps or conflicts when needed.
  • Support leadership and project teams with high‑level tracking and visibility into status, risks, and upcoming inflection points.
  • Influence alignment across Network, Legal, Govt Affairs, Public Affairs on direction and risk posture.
  • Act as a connector across teams with competing priorities, helping clarify communications implications of business decisions.
  • Comfortable navigating evolving technologies and communication platforms, with a proactive approach to learning new systems and identifying process improvements.
  • Comfortable with Copilot or other generative AI tools to enhance communications planning, management, and execution.
